PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
Levanco Asia completed his BHSc in Physiology and Biochemistry, BSc Honours in Biochemistry, and MSc in Biochemistry at North-West University, South Africa. His academic history has revolved around metabolomics. His current research focuses on understanding how HIV viral proteins and antiretroviral therapy (ART) may play a role in metabolic dysfunction in South African ART-treated people living with HIV.
He has contributed to several publications on this topic and presented at international conferences and short courses. He was awarded a NIH-funded scholarship for the “NexT generatIon Training in HIV Research: Immunity in the First 1000 Days in Mother-Infant Dyads (TIGRIS) D43 Programme” at RIRCA which will allow him to enrich his doctoral studies through a 6-month placement to receive training on ART and metabolomics.
