PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

Amy Parnell is a PhD student registered at Imperial College London and an Honorary Research Fellow at Stellenbosch University. She graduated with First Class Honours in Biomedical Science from the University of Warwick. During her placement year in paediatric HIV medical affairs, Amy co-authored a review on health disparities in HIV-exposed uninfected children. She has also presented her research on CMV and respiratory disease in perinatally acquired HIV at ESPID.

Amy will be with the RIRCA lab for two years, working on her project: the impact of cytomegalovirus in respiratory tract infection on young children born to mothers with HIV. Her research draws on samples from four South African cohorts of children with respiratory tract infections.
